This blog has been created with the hopes of disrupting the “us versus them” status quo that has come to dominate our government and media.

When I was in college, one of my most favorite things was to sit in the student union and have conversations with people from different backgrounds.  I remember far ranging conversations about philosophy, Geo-politics, human nature and religion.  Many of the conversations were passionate and animated.  Sometimes there were angry debates that made peoples faces flush.  Mostly there was dialog.  There was a willingness to hear one another out when it came to each persons view or opinion. We actually communicated with each other and really listened to one another.  Pehaps it was because we were young and had not yet become fully invested in our individual world views. and therefore had more space for each other.   More likely however it was because we had to.

Back then most of us got our information from the same places.  There were fewer choices in media then.  There were only about 7 television channels to choose from.  Today, there are litterally hundreds of places to get information from and by and large, each one has its own subjective slant.  That in itself is not really a problem. The real issue is that most of us now get our news and information from the places we are already inclined to agree with.  Are discussions on ideas take place mostly in cloisters of like-minded people.  These conversations generally lead us to complaining and sometimes ridiculing “Those other people”.

This blog is for people who don’t agree with one another but are unafraid of listening to each others ideas on things.   This blog hopes to bring back listening to democracy.

Please join the conversation and be prepared to listen and think before you speak.

 Thank you.
